UNC Sangam will be hosting world-renowned human rights activist Ruchira Gupta for a discussion and lecture on UNC’s campus. Gupta has spent over 25 years fighting against sex trafficking in India and around the world, and she has received numerous awards for her devoted work. The focus of her work has been with the organization she founded called Apne Aap, which has been responsible for saving over 10,000 women and children from sex slavery over the past ten years. She has also worked for the United Nations as a special adviser, helping countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam construct national action plans to combat sex trafficking. The combination of all her work has solidified her reputation as one of the world’s leading human rights activists.
This event will give people from the community a chance to hear a truly phenomenal leader share her experiences and construct an important picture of the state of global sex trafficking and what we can do to stop it.
