Charlé LaMonica is the director of UNC World View. She has served in this role since 2013. Since UNC World View was founded in 1998, more than 25,000 educators from every county in North Carolina have participated in UNC World View programs. As director, Charlé collaborates with more than 92 partners both on and off campus; forges strategic alliances with schools, districts and community colleges; leads the UNC World View Global Education Leaders Program; and represents UNC World View throughout North Carolina, the U.S. and the world. Charlé has led numerous global study visits, taking K-12 and community college educators around the world to learn about different educational systems. She has also strengthened financial and philanthropic support for UNC World View, including establishing the Richardson Lecture and the Robert and Jean Phay UNC World View Endowment. 

Education is central to Charlé’s career. She has taught English, history and social studies to middle and high school students and world history to community college students. Many years ago, she worked as an education outreach and research associate for the Asia Society’s North Carolina China Council at UNC-Chapel Hill, and led professional development in international education outreach programs for Professional Seminar Consultants, Inc. 

Charlé serves on the North Carolina Coalition of Global Competitiveness and the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s North Carolina Advisory Committee. She is a member of the training cohorts of UNC-Chapel Hill’s faculty learning community on strategy and leadership and UNC-Chapel Hill’s Faculty Administrator Development Program. She has participated in the Harvard Women in Education Leadership program, the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network program and the Public School Forum of North Carolina Education Policy Fellowship program. She also served on the Charlotte International Cabinet. Charlé lives with her family in Chapel Hill.
