Emmy Grace is the program manager for global education at UNC Global Affairs. She has served in this role since 2021. Emmy supports opportunities for all Carolina students to pursue a global education in their coursework and outside the classroom on campus. Emmy contributes to Carolina’s growing COIL program — Collaborative Online International Learning — which is a crucial way to offer meaningful global engagement and intercultural learning for faculty and students. She collaborates frequently with campus partners, global affairs practitioners, faculty, staff, alumni and students to organize programs for the Diplomacy Initiative, too, equipping students with resources and skills to pursue careers in global affairs.

Before coming to Carolina in 2019, Emmy lived in Antigua, Guatemala. There, she served as the director for community engagement with De la Gente, a nonprofit organization, dedicated to economic development in the Guatemalan highlands. Emmy earned her bachelor’s degree in Hispanic studies and environmental studies with a concentration in international environmental policy from Illinois Wesleyan University. She studied in Ecuador, the United Kingdom and Costa Rica. She earned her master’s degree in international affairs, with a concentration in natural resources and sustainable development, from American University’s School of International Service and the UN-affiliated University for Peace in Costa Rica.

Emmy has experience in nonprofit and environmental work, especially with issues related to electric vehicle and agricultural policies and environmental justice. During her time in Guatemala, she developed an interest in textiles and coffee, eventually starting a collaboration with artisans in Guatemala and representing locally roasted coffee. She enjoys participating in community events, advancing sustainability efforts and traveling.
