The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has provided superior higher education for more than two centuries as the nation’s first public university. Many of the University’s schools and programs consistently rank among the best in the nation and world, and students and faculty enjoy the interdisciplinary collaborative spirit across campus.

Our undergraduate students are required to complete a liberal arts core curriculum that builds a strong academic foundation, helps them approach knowledge with a spirit of inquiry and curiosity and fosters connections between their experiences and the world around them. Toward these goals, students study at least one foreign language and enroll in courses that promote an understanding of global issues, U.S. diversity, the world before 1750, the North Atlantic world and people living beyond the North Atlantic world.
