Ingrid Smith is interim director of communications and events for the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs. In her position, she collaborates with global units across campus on events and communications related projects. Originally from North Carolina, Smith was a Johnston Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her bachelor’s degree in international studies and German. She earned a European Commission scholarship to participate in the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Global Studies program, which allowed her to receive a joint degree from both the University of Vienna and the University of Leipzig. During her graduate studies, her primary interest was linguistics with a focus on English as a lingua franca in international higher education. Smith also holds a graduate certificate in digital communication from the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Before returning to UNC-Chapel Hill, Smith worked in a variety of capacities to foster international education and bolster professional and academic exchange. This included teaching English in Seoul, South Korea, and providing logistical support for programs at an international experiential education company.
