A Conversation with Vladimir Sorokin

November 11, 2022 at 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The Russian Flagship Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites you to a conversation with Vladimir Sorokin. Preeminent among Russian authors today, Sorokin has crafted a parallel fictional universe where his native country’s traumas and nightmares are tricked into having an illusion of free rein—too free, some might say, since it is difficult to shake off an impression that Vladimir Putin’s Russia is doing its utmost to reenact some of the darkest of Sorokin’s visions. Sorokin is a novelist, short story writer, dramatist, and artist of unparalleled versatility and humor. In English his expansive oeuvre is represented, inter alia, by Blue Lard (1999), Ice (2002), Day of the Oprichnik (2006), and The Blizzard (2010), all translated by Jamie Gambrell, and Telluria (New York Review of Books, 2022), in Max Lawton’s translation.

To be introduced, conducted, and moderated by Stanislav Shvabrin.
In Russian with an English introduction. Registration required. Register here.
