Andrea Peto

Based on her earlier research on the development of women’s history writing in post-communist Central Europe, Andrea Pető will discuss the emergence of new topics in the field alongside theoretical and political trends that threaten to limit the critical influence of women’s history on historical writing in the region.

Pető is a professor in the Department of Gender Studies at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. She has published extensively on oral and women’s history in Central Europe, including books on women in Hungarian politics between 1945-1951, the female perpetrators in Hungary during World War II and a biography of Júlia Rajk.
