Bordering Tea: Agricultural Transfer, Food Nationalism, and the Territorial Politics between Taiwan and the Southeast Asian Highlands
April 8, 2022 at 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Dr. Po-Yi Hung, Professor at National Taiwan University and visiting scholar at the National Humanities Center, will present an ongoing book project, highlighting the story about the tea transfer between Taiwan and the Highland Southeast Asia, specifically the highlands in Thailand and Vietnam. The book aims to see how tea, as a nonhuman plant, has been a critical force in mobilizing bordering and de-bordering works. The story helps us to reconsider the Asian borders in general and their relationship with people’s everyday lives.
