CANCELED: Vivek Wadhwa, ‘Solving the Grand Challenges of Humanity Through Technology and How India Will Lead the Way’

Vivek Wadhwa will deliver a lecture, “Solving the Grand Challenges of Humanity Through Technology and How India Will Lead the Way,” at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium in the FedEx Global Education Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The event is sponsored by the Modern Indian Studies Initiative, which is a program of the Carolina Asia Center, and UNC Global.

Wadhwa is a technological entrepreneur and a distinguished fellow at Harvard Law School and Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley. At Harvard Law School’s Labor and Worklife Program, Wadhwa researches the impact of technology on employment. At Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley, he teaches classes on exponential technologies, technology convergence and industry disruption, risks and regulation and the new rules of innovation. Wadhwa is an advisor to several governments and serves as a mentor to entrepreneurs across the globe. Prior to working in academia, he was a technology executive known for pioneering change and innovation. He is author of four books and is a globally syndicated columnist for The Washington Post.

In 2012, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services awarded Wadhwa the distinguished recognition as an “Outstanding American by Choice” for his commitment to this country and to the common civic values that unite us as Americans. He was also named one of the world’s “Top 100 Global Thinkers” by Foreign Policy Magazine in that year, and in June 2013, he was on TIME Magazine’s list of the “Tech 40,” one of 40 of the most influential minds in technology. In 2018, he was awarded the Silicon Valley Forum’s Visionary Award “who have made Silicon Valley synonymous with creativity and life-changing advancements in technology.”

A reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Florence and James Peacock Atrium prior to the lecture.

This event is free and open to the public. Public parking is available beginning at 5 p.m. in the McCauley Deck underneath the FedEx Global Education Center.
