This conference will examine the question of authenticity as constructed, performed, and challenged in Islamic traditions that presume a discursive center.

Presenters will explore this theme through a variety of topics in the study of Islam. Papers are from a range of disciplines (including but not limited to medicine, psychology, art and art history, geography, literature, philosophy, political science, religious studies, cultural anthropology, and history) that examine such questions within historical and contemporary Islamicate contexts.

This conference is part of the 10th Annual Duke-UNC Graduate Islamic Studies Conference.
