Diplomatic Discussion: Cultural Diplomacy with Prof. Popy Rufaidah of the Indonesian Embassy

As part of the ongoing Diplomacy Initiative at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Carolina Asia Center is delighted to host a conversation with Prof. Popy Rufaidah, the Education and Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 22. Prof. Popy will share from her expertise on the nature of cultural diplomacy, why countries engage in this kind of work as part of their diplomatic outreach, and Indonesia’s strategies for cultural diplomacy.

 

Prof. Popy Rufaidah has served as the Education and Cultural Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C., since 2018. She is a professor, director of the Master’s in Management program, and Vice-Dean in the Business School of Pandjadjaran University in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. She received her doctorate from the University of New South Wales (Australia) in 2006, and she additionally holds degrees from Murray State University and Pandjadjaran University. In addition to her diplomatic experience, Prof. Popy is an expert on branding strategy and business management.

 

The event will be held in person at the FedEx Global Education Center in Room 4003 from 5-6 p.m. The event is open to the public, but all attendees must wear a mask at all times while inside the building. If the space becomes full, social distancing requirements may necessitate limiting the number of attendees.
