Diplomatic Discussion with Rana Foroohar, Financial Times columnist and CNN analyst
March 9, 2023 at 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
At the dawn of the twenty-first century, Thomas Friedman declared globalization the new economic order in The World Is Flat. But the reign of globalization as we’ve known it is over, argues Financial Times columnist and CNN analyst Rana Foroohar, and the rise of local, regional and home-grown business is now at hand.
Foroohar will explore economic localization, the subject of her latest book, “Homecoming: The Path to Prosperity in a Post Global World,” in a Diplomatic Discussion with the Global Research Institute on March 9. Following her remarks, Foroohar will sit down for a fireside chat with Barbara Stephenson, vice provost for global affairs and former U.S. ambassador. Her book will be on sale at the event and Foroohar will sign a limited number of copies following the event.
Previously, she had long stints writing on economics and on foreign affairs at both Time and Newsweek. She is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and on the advisory board of the Open Markets Institute.
Diplomatic Discussions is a series of in-person and virtual visits offered as part of the Diplomacy Initiative led by the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs. Through this series, students gain inside perspectives from top international relations practitioners on current issues in diplomacy and international affairs through class visits, public lectures and panel discussions.
