Julian Garritzmann

Julian Garritzmann is a senior researcher in political science at the University of Konstanz in Germany and the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Currently, he is a visiting scholar at Duke University. Garritzmann has held visiting scholar positions at Harvard and Rutgers Universities as well. His research areas are comparative political economy, welfare state research, education and social investment policy, party politics, public opinion and legislative studies. His book on the Political Economy of Higher Education Finance received the dissertation award by the German Political Science Association (DVPW) and the ESPAnet/JESP’s Doctoral Researcher Prize. It was also shortlisted for the Deutscher Studienpreis. He has also published articles in the Journal of European Social Policy, the Journal of European Public Policy, the Journal of Legislative StudiesPS: Political Science and Politics and West European Politics. In his talk, Garritzmann will present research from an ongoing book project on public opinion and social investment policies, drawing on a large, representative public opinion survey, as well as on case studies in eight European countries.
