Kiran Klaus Patel, ‘The Making of a European Alternative: Cooperation and Integration in Western Europe After 1945’

Kiran Klaus Patel is professor and chair of European and global history at Maastricht University. He also serves as Jean Monnet Chair and head of the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Before joining Maastricht University, Patel was a joint chair at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy and an assistant professor at Humboldt University in Berlin. He has been a Kennedy Fellow at the Center for European Study at Harvard University, a visiting professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, the German Historical Institute London, the London School of Economics, Sciences Po Paris, as well as a senior visiting fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, the Free University in Berlin and the University of Oxford. Presently, he is also member of an international team of historians researching the history of the German Ministry of Labor during the Third Reich. His latest book, Projekt Europa. Eine kritische Geschichte, is an analysis of European integration history.

This seminar is part of the NC German Studies Seminar & Workshop Series and is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
