Paper Workshop & Discussion: ‘The Desert as Laboratory: Science and State-making in the Drylands of Arizona and Arabia’ with Natalie Koch

The Department of Geography and Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies hosts Natalie Koch, associate professor and O’Hanley Faculty Scholar in the Department of Geography at Syracuse University. She will present on the “One Million Date Palms for Oman” initiative in partnership with University of Arizona regarding developing new date palm research laboratories outside of Muscat, which are set to open in 2020. Professor Koch will share how that collaboration between the two regions around desert agriculture has been vital to state-making in both regions.
