Persistence as Resistance: An Evening with Ana Castillo

November 4, 2019 at 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Distinguished author Ana Castillo will read from her poetry and prose collections tracing her writing as acts of resistance. Castillo penned the novels So Far From God and Sapogonia, both New York Times Notable Books of the Year. Her novel Give it to Me won a 2014 LAMBDA Literary Award. Castillo’s latest work, Black Dove: Mamá, Mi’jo, and Me, examines what it means to be a single, brown, feminist parent in a world of mass incarceration, racial profiling and police brutality. Black Dove won an International Latino Book Award and a LAMBDA Award for best bisexual non-fiction.

The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and a book signing will follow.

The event is co-sponsored by the Critical Ethnic Studies Collective; Latina/o Studies Program; Creative Writing Program; Departments of American Studies, English and Comparative Literature and Romance Studies; and the Humanities for the Public Good Initiative.
