Pride and Prejudice as Angels’ Ladder: Jane Austen in Takarazuka Musical Theatre

Haruko Takukawa (Ochanomizu University, Japan) will speak on “Pride and Prejudice as Angels’ Ladder: Jane Austen in Takarazuka Musical Theatre,” connecting British regency literature to modern-day Japanese popular culture. This talk is free and open to the public, and will be held virtually over Zoom.

This event is run by Jane Austen & Co, a free public Zoom series focused on the life, histories, and writings of women living in the Regency era., and co-sponsored by the Carolina Asia Center. This year’s series from Jane Austen & Co is “Asia & the Regency,” which will look at topics across East and South Asia in connection with the literature of Jane Austen and the global influences on Jane Austen’s Britain.
