‘Reconstructing Frankenstein’s Monster: Mary Shelley’s World in Print,’ Exhibition Opening

April 26, 2018 at 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Join undergraduate students from English 295H as they present their original research and a class-curated, full-scale exhibition about Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking modern novel, Frankenstein, on the 200th anniversary of its publication.

Working under the direction of Professor Jeanne Moskal, along with librarians and exhibition specialists at the Wilson Special Collections Library, the students spent the spring semester with rare materials from the library collections, reconstructing the world in which Shelley worked. They will be on hand to discuss their work and the insights they gained during this unique undergraduate research seminar.

The exhibition focuses on issues such as political turmoil in England and France, global exploration, medical experimentation and sexual liberation. On view will be the Library’s first edition of Frankenstein, along with a newly acquired second edition, important because of significant changes.

“Reconstructing Frankenstein’s Monster: Mary Shelley’s World in Print” will be on view in the Melba Remig Saltarelli Exhibit Room in Wilson Library through August 26, 2018.
