Leslie Small

Leslie Small, TAM ’15, became Georgia Engaged’s first executive director in June of 2016. As executive director, Leslie is charged with organizing social welfare groups committed to achieving the vision of a better, fairer, healthier Georgia through the development of collaborative nonpartisan civic engagement and policy strategies. Leslie’s career in politics began in 2003 with Congressman Bob Etheridge (NC-02). From there he worked with Congressman John Lewis (GA-05) in his Washington, DC, Atlanta and campaign offices. Leslie received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in political science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He’s a 2005 graduate of the TransAtlantic Masters program where he studied at the University of Bath and Charles University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Political Science at Clark Atlanta University.

Tess Snodgrass

Tess Snodgrass, TAM ’16, is a student in the sociology doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She has a bachelor’s degree in French language and area studies from American University. Before entering her first graduate studies program, she was an English teaching assistant in France. Tess studied in Ankara, Turkey, and Berlin, Germany, while completing the TransAtlantic Masters Program, where her research focused on education and immigration. She taught American government and other political science courses at the community-college level before returning to the other side of the classroom to continue her graduate studies and research, still focused on the intersection of education, immigration, and the family.

Melanie Zimmermann

Melanie Zimmermann, TAM ’18, currently is the legislative assistant to a democratic senator in the North Carolina Senate. In 2018, she worked on midterm campaigns following her graduation from UNC’s TransAtlantic Masters Program. Through the TAM program, she studied at Sciences Po and the University of Siena. In 2016, she graduated with First Class Honours from King’s College London with a BA in international politics. During her undergraduate studies, she worked for over a year in the political section of the US Embassy in London. Previously, she also worked at Crossroads Foundation in Hong Kong, Community Security Trust in London, and the International Institute for Counter-terrorism in Israel.
