Transnational Korean Cinema and Media Conference

The Carolina Asia Center is hosting the Triangle East Asia Colloquium 2019 on the theme of Transnational Korean Cinema and Media. The events will feature short films and panelists from all around the states.
8:30-9 am: Registration and coffee.
9-9:15 am: Welcome Remarks by Morgan Pitelka, director of the Carolina Asia Center.
9:15-10:45 am: Hyon Joo Yoo and Youngmin Choe, ‘Visuality and Gendered Body Across Borders.’ Joo Yoo is an associate professor of English at the University of Vermont. Choe is an associate professor of East Asian languages and cultures and the University of Southern California.
11-12:30 pm: Heekyoung Cho and Haerin Shin, ‘Cross-Media Dialogue in Neoliberal Korea.’ Cho is an associate professor of Asian languages and literature at the University of Washington. Shin is an assistant professor of English at Vanderbilt University.
12:30-1:30 pm: Lunch.
1:30-2 pm: Keynote speaker Esther Kim Lee, professor of theater studies at Duke University.
2-3:30 pm: Evelyn Shih and Hye Seung Chung, ‘Remapping Cold War East Asia.’ Shih is an assistant professor of Chinese at the University of Colorado Boulder. Chung is an associate professor of film and media studies ant Colorado State University.
3:30-3:45 pm: Closing remarks by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty Ji-Yeon Jo, associate professor of Asian studies, and I Jonathan Kief, assistant professor of Asian Studies.
