Virtual: How WWII Spread Across the Globe in 1941: Africa, Russia and the United States featuring Gerhard Weinburg

September 12, 2020 at 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

A Distinguished Scholar Webinar featuring Gerhard L. Weinberg

The Second World War became a truly global conflict in 1941, as the struggle between Axis and Allied forces spread into the deserts of North Africa, the vast territories of the Soviet Union, and the islands of the Pacific Ocean. The expanding battles caused immense death, destruction and disruption, and both Germany and Japan seemed to be advancing everywhere. The Axis attacks on the Soviet Union and the United States brought two mighty powers into the military alliance with Great Britain, however, and the war would gradually change as the Allies mobilized all of their resources for the global, anti-Axis campaign. Join distinguished historian Gerhard Weinberg for his first-ever CPH webinar as he interprets the far-reaching events of 1941 in Africa, eastern Europe, and the Pacific Islands and explains their significance for the wider history of World War II.

Gerhard L. Weinberg is William Rand Kenan Jr. professor of History Emeritus. He is an internationally known expert on all aspects of World War II and author of numerous books, including the comprehensive, award-winning masterwork A World at Arms: A Global History of World War II.
