Virtual: ‘Introduction to Malawi and Chichewa: Interactive Workshop on Malawian Culture and Chichewa Language’

Join the UNC African Studies Center and the UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases for a two-part workshop on March 20 and March 27 at 9:30 a.m. These workshops will provide a brief overview of the social, cultural and political context of Malawi with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity in health services for UNC-Chapel Hill students, staff and faculty planning research, service or internships in Malawi. Using a mixture of panel discussions and group breakout sessions, participants will explore social and behavioral, practices and norms in Malawi.
Participants will also receive:
- Introductory tips to Chichewa greetings, linguistics and elementary language construction tools
- Soft copies of workshop material including practical language tips on health and medical interview vocabulary
- UberEats lunch vouchers
