Vugar Gurbanov, ‘Great Power Competition in Eurasia: The View from Azerbaijan’

Vugar Gurbanov is a political counselor and acting deputy chief of mission at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United States. He is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2005. Prior to his current position, Gurbanov worked at the Political-Military, Security Affairs and International Security departments of the Foreign Ministry. He also worked for the Mission of Azerbaijan to NATO.
For more than 10 years at the Foreign Ministry, Gurbanov worked on a number of important issues dealing with Azerbaijan’s national security policy.

Prior to joining the Foreign Ministry, Gurbanov worked for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense. Before serving in the military, Gurbanov worked as a research assistant at the Caspian Research Center of Baku State University.
