Yong Cai

This semester, UNC Update is investigating the theme of “Challenging Human Rights”, with the first event being a discussion on the dismantled one-child policy and the future of the two-child policy. Hear from Yong Cai as he introduces the topic and facilitates a continued discussion with students. Cai is a professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research is focused primarily on China’s fertility rates and the challenges China faces. After a short presentation, students are able to discuss the detrimental effects as well as the positive effects brought by the one-child policy while considering the human rights issues.

Please visit the Facebook page for more information. Refreshments will be served. UNC Update is a two part, bring-you-up-to-speed discussion of relevant and often misunderstood current events hosted by UNC professors, students and student groups. It is co-sponsored by the Carolina Asia Center and UNC Scholars Cultural Engagement Fund.
