Ciarrocca and De Kok Inducted into the International College of Dentists

The International College of Dentists (ICD) USA Section inducted Katharine Ciarrocca, DMD, MSEd, and Ingeborg De Kok, DDS, MS, into its member fellowship during the ICD’s 89th Annual Convocation in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“I am humbled by my induction to the International College of Dentists, and proud to represent the UNC-CH School of Dentistry with this honor,” said Ciarrocca. “This recognition is particularly special to me because Betty McKaig, a distinguished alumna of UNC-CH School of Dentistry, nominated and sponsored me.”
“It is an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization of dentists,” said De Kok. “As a member of the UNC-CH dental community, I strive to instill strong values and the utmost integrity while both teaching and treating patients.”
Ciarrocca and De Kok were selected for their significant contributions to the field of dentistry and their community, in addition to their commitment to the College’s core values of integrity, leadership and service. As inducted fellows of the ICD, they were awarded a membership plaque, gold lapel pin and gold key, symbolic of the Fellowship for conspicuous service rendered in the art and science of dentistry.
In an impressive regalia ceremony, 210 dentists from the United States were inducted into the College with hundreds of members and guests in attendance. The College, with representative chapters in 123 countries, has more than 11,000 members, including 6,500 in the United States.
The International College of Dentists is the pre-eminent honorary organization of the world’s outstanding dentists involved in serving others. The ICD is dedicated to the recognition of the professional achievement, meritorious service and the continued progress in the profession of dentistry for all humankind.
Katharine Ciarrocca is an associate professor in the Department of Dental Ecology, and director of interprofessional education and practice for the UNC-CH School of Dentistry. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and maintains active memberships in the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM), the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she also completed her Master of Science in education and her fellowship in oral medicine.
Ingeborg J. De Kok is an associate professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, Division of Prosthodontics, at the UNC-CH School of Dentistry. De Kok completed her DDS degree at Central University of Venezuela in 1997 and received her prosthodontics certificate and MS in oral biology at UNC-CH in 2002. In 2003, she completed a fellowship in implant dentistry at UNC-CH. De Kok has been a faculty member at UNC-CH since 2004. Her major research interests include clinical outcomes with the use of dental implants.
