David Steeb Receives American Pharmacists Association New Practitioner Award

David Steeb is the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished New Practitioner Award from the American Pharmacists Association. The award recognizes a new practitioner, within the first five years of practice, who has demonstrated distinctive achievements in mentorship, service and commitment to the profession of pharmacy.
Steeb is a clinical assistant professor and director of global engagement at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Steeb conducts research in global pharmacy education and training and is collaborating with faculty at other UNC health affairs schools in developing curricula at the intersection of pharmacy and global health.
Award recipients must be an APhA member pharmacist within their first five years after graduation. Nominees are judged on APhA-related activities and participation, community service, contributions to the development of student pharmacists, impact on the profession through singular or multiple achievements and participation in other professional activities.
Steeb is a former APhA board of trustees member, APhA-ASP national president and chair of the APhA New Practitioner Network. Steeb currently serves as a chapter co-adviser for APhA-ASP and Phi Delta Chi and is chair-elect of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Global Pharmacy Education Special Interest Group.
As director of global engagement, Steeb engages students and faculty in a variety of global activities and initiatives, such as the Global Pharmacy Scholars program that provides pharmacy students with the opportunity to do an international rotation in Australia, China, England, Ethiopia, India, Japan, Malawi, Moldova and Zambia. Steeb also works with faculty in developing international relationships and partnerships such as PharmAlliance, a unique three-way partnership between Monash University Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Melbourne, Australia; University College London School of Pharmacy in London, England; and the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
Steeb received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from the University of Miami and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In 2013, Steeb developed and became the first global engagement fellow at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He received his Master of Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
