UNC-Chapel Hill Hosts King’s College London Delegation April 16-19, 2018

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill welcomed a delegation from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King’s College London April 16-19, 2018, including Russell Goulbourne, dean, and Raphael Woolf, vice dean of external relations.
Goulbourne and Woolf met with faculty and staff from the UNC College of Arts and Sciences, including religious studies, classics, philosophy, music, digital humanities, history and English and comparative literature, and the Institute for Arts and Humanities to discuss joint projects and opportunities for future collaborations. They also met with the Study Abroad Office, the Center for Public Service and the Philosophy, Politics and Economics Program to discuss student engagement opportunities.
Discussion also took place with the Graduate School about the King’s-UNC Royster Global Fellows Program, which was established in 2017 and extended Carolina’s prestigious Royster Society of Fellows to engage graduate students from King’s. The inaugural Royster Global conference took place at Carolina in July 2017, after collaborative planning between Carolina Royster doctoral students and King’s doctoral students, and a second conference is scheduled for July 2018 in London. The interdisciplinary conferences enable participants to engage with one another and share perspectives through seminars and workshops. “Carolina’s partnership with King’s College London serves as a model for developing our partnerships,” said Katie Bowler Young, director of global relations for UNC Global and UNC-Chapel Hill’s partnership liaison for the UNC-King’s College London Strategic Alliance. “Visits like this give us time to plan and imagine together, finding new ways to collaborate while strengthening longstanding activity.”
Goulbourne and Woolf also had the opportunity to talk with King’s undergraduate students currently studying at Carolina and Carolina students who will study at King’s in the fall 2018 semester. Since 2004, over 400 Carolina undergraduate students have studied at King’s, and more than 250 King’s undergraduate students have come to Carolina.
Carolina’s partnership with King’s College London, a research-led public university in the heart of London founded in 1828, exemplifies a commitment to building robust and multi-level global partnerships. In 2005, UNC-Chapel Hill and King’s College London established the UNC-King’s Strategic Alliance, initiated between the UNC College of Arts and Sciences and King’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy. The UNC-King’s Strategic Alliance is one of the most ambitious partnerships between a U.S. and U.K. university, including longstanding and emerging joint activity in teaching, research, student exchanges and other initiatives in diverse fields across both universities.
