University Career Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill hosted an Industry Night event for International Careers on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the FedEx Global Education Center. Industry Night events are opportunities for students to connect with professionals that have experience working in their field of interest, learn about career opportunities within those fields and gain information to help them in their career decision-making journey.
UNC faculty and students from the Curriculum in Global Studies, Study Abroad Office, Carolina Asia Center and Kenan-Flagler Business School were in attendance; the Peace Corps, AIESEC and the U.S. State Department also sent representatives. Professionals included those with experience in pharmaceuticals, small-business entrepreneurship and financial engineering. Approximately 50 students had the opportunity to meet with 15 professionals throughout the evening.
“Networking and international outreach are important considerations for future employment,” said student assistant Janna Childers. “I really appreciated Career Services taking the time to bring international perspectives to campus, especially as it benefits those who have not yet traveled abroad.”
University Career Services has organized the Industry Night event series for several years, meeting students’ requests for opportunities to speak to professionals with work experience across many disciplines. The goal of the event is to bring in a wide range of students, faculty and professionals with experience in themed fields. This particular industry night had an international theme; other areas of concentration include the social sciences and humanities.
