Faculty Awards for Global Excellence

The nomination form for the Faculty Awards for Global Excellence will open on December 1, 2021.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs at UNC-Chapel Hill invites nominations for the inaugural Faculty Awards for Global Excellence to recognize faculty members whose contributions advance the University’s global vision, articulated in the 2020 strategic plan, Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good.

Up to three awards will be presented annually to faculty demonstrating achievements in any combination of the Carolina Next 7.0: Globalize three strategic objectives:

  1. Global Partnership | Strengthens global partnerships and brings the world to Carolina
  2. Global Education | Expands the menu of global education opportunities for all Carolina students; diversifies and strengthens global learning across the Carolina curriculum on campus and abroad
  3. Global Research | Amplifies the virtues of Carolina’s culture of low stone walls by collaborating with international partners to address the world’s greatest challenges

Preference will be given to activity that enhances UNC-Chapel Hill’s global reputation and visibility; demonstrates impact, influence or innovation; and involves interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teaching or research.

The vice provost for global affairs will present the awards at a special ceremony in the FedEx Global Education Center in April 2022. Selected faculty will receive an award of $5,000.

Funding for the Faculty Awards for Global Excellence is made possible through contributions to the Chancellor’s Global Education Fund.

Tenured, tenure-track and term-appointed faculty who are currently employed by UNC-Chapel Hill are eligible to receive a Faculty Award for Global Excellence. Adjunct and visiting/exchange faculty, postdocs and graduate students are ineligible.

Nominations will be accepted December 1, 2021 – February 15, 2022. UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff and students are eligible to submit multiple nominations.

A selection committee will review nominations based on the award criteria. Awardees will be notified in March 2022 and announced publicly in April 2022.
