Student Communication Assistants
UNC Global Affairs is no longer accepting applications for undergraduate or graduate student communication assistants for the 2024 fall semester and/or 2024-25 academic year.
Responsibilities
The student communication assistants:
- Write news or feature articles;
- Create content for social media (Instagram and LinkedIn);
- Support the Carolina Global Photo Competition and Exhibition; and
- Support website management of global.unc.edu.
Each student communication assistant will have the opportunity to focus on one of the following areas depending upon their interests and the current need:
- Graphic design
- Social media
- Photography and videography
The student communication assistants help with other responsibilities as needed, such as attending UNC Global Affairs events outside work hours.
Requirements
This opportunity is designed to provide students with practical and professional experiences to develop their skills. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, dependable and creative. Preferred candidates will have some experience related to the above responsibilities, including, but not limited to strong editing and writing skills, familiarity with the AP Stylebook and an interest in global studies or international education.
Expectations
The student communication assistants should be available to work 10-15 hours per week. Work hours are to be conducted during business hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the FedEx Global Education Center, except for UNC Global Affairs events or other predetermined circumstances. The majority of hours will be in person with the possibility of some hybrid work. The hourly rate will range from $13/hour to $16/hour depending on experience. This employee type is an hourly wage student temp. The use of TIM each shift to record your work hours is required.

Applications should include a writing sample no longer than two pages (can be a portion of a school paper) and/or samples of graphic design work; a brief cover letter; and a résumé. Applications missing any of these materials will not be considered. Candidates may be asked to complete an interview or provide other supplemental information.
