The FedEx Global Education Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill hosts art exhibitions that promote intellectual discussion and a better understanding and appreciation for other cultures and world regions. Each semester, UNC Global features the works of global artists in exhibitions that touch on a variety of themes and topics. The exhibitions offer perspectives from a range of places, histories and peoples, but convey themes that are universal. Artwork is displayed from the first to the third floor of the FedEx Global Education Center to inspire the Carolina community and further infuse a global dimension throughout the University’s teaching and research. Typically, exhibitions are accompanied by related lectures and other programming.
Call for Proposals For Fall 2021 Exhibition Featuring Latina/o Artists Based in North Carolina
The FedEx Global Education Center seeks proposals for a fall 2021 art exhibition from Latina and Latino artists based in North Carolina to celebrate the breadth and diversity of artists who call North Carolina home. Artwork will be displayed from mid-August through December 2021. Artists using paint, sculpture, textile, photography and other mediums are welcome to submit proposals.
UNC Global considers submissions in accordance with the following priorities:
- We seek Latina/o artists based in North Carolina creating through any number of mediums, including but not limited to painting, photography, sculpture and textiles.
- We encourage works with an educational dimension consistent with the mission of the FedEx Global Education Center.
All artists must submit the following:
- Artist’s statement
- 10 to 15 images of the proposed pieces, accompanying text, dimensions of pieces and explanation of how pieces will be displayed (discuss framing, mounting, etc.)
The deadline for submission is March 31, 2021. Proposals should be submitted to Ingrid Smith, interim director of communications and events for UNC Global, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submissions will be reviewed by a committee comprised of members of the Institute for the Study of the Americas, UNC Global, as well as UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff and students from across campus.
The gallery space within the center is housed on three floors and contains approximately 14 linear feet on each of the five walls in the space. This includes one wall on the first floor and two walls on the second and third floors. Most exhibitions should use all three floors of the gallery space, but exhibitors may share gallery space on some occasions.
Glass display cases (approximately 11.5’W x 8.5’H x 18”D) containing maple pedestals (14” squared, with 3 in each height: 2’, 3’, and 4’) in the center’s atrium may also be used to highlight three-dimensional work.
Some works of art may be covered by the University’s fine arts policy and insurance, but the FedEx Global Education Center cannot be responsible for the security of artwork. Security personnel are on-site during evenings and weekends.
