Virtual: Carolina Public Humanities Series: ‘Lunch with Friends and Strangers’ featuring African Biographies

Carolina Public Humanities is hosting a free lunchtime series beginning this week. Three of the featured guests will be discussing figures from African history. CPH Executive Director, Max Owre, will host the Virtual Series and will talk one-on-one with UNC professors as they discuss leading figures in history — some likely strangers, some more familiar. Each lunch starts at 12:00 noon and runs approximately 30 minutes. Conversations will be accessed via a Zoom webinar (not a Zoom meeting). The lunches will be recorded and made available via the Carolina Public Humanities YouTube page. Details for accessing the webinar will be sent by the morning of the lunch. June 3 – Emily Burrill, director of the African Studies Center, and associate professor in History and Women’s and Gender Studies will discuss Aoua Keita – The Revolutionary Midwife of the Sahel
June 5 – Lisa Lindsay, professor and chair of the Department of History, will discuss James Churchill Vaughn – Finding Real African Roots
June 10 – Ashley Anderson, assistant professor of Political Science, will discuss Habib Achour – An Old Lion for Labor.
