Devin DeWeese, ‘Islamization in the Golden Horde and Communal Identity among the Turkmens: The Subtle Social Legacies of a Fourteenth-Century Saint’

Devin DeWeese’s focus on religious studies have led him to make important interventions in Central Asian history. Come to learn how the Golden-Horde era Islamization legends have shaped the communal identities of Central Asian peoples.

This event is organized by the Islamicate Graduate Student Association at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is sponsored by the Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies; the Central Asia Working Group; the Carolina Asia Center; the Department of History; Transnational and Global Modern History; the Department of Religious Studies; the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations; and the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies.
