Virtual: ‘Trade, Global Supply Chains and Worker Rights in the EU’

May 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Join the Center for European Studies on May 4 at 11:00 a.m. for a panel that will focus on labor and human rights in countries in the Global South, and how the EU affects/could affect those outcomes via its economic relations. These include trade — such as including labor-related conditions in preferential trade agreements, or as part of its Generalized System of Preferences program (the EU does both). These mechanisms also could include rules affecting supply chains — for instance, requiring (or encouraging) EU-based firms to do due diligence to monitoring instances of forced labor or modern slavery in their overseas supply chains (“corporate social responsibility”).
