UNC-Chapel Hill Ties for 12th for Fulbright US Student Awards Among Research Universities

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill tied for 12th among research universities with the most students receiving Fulbright awards for 2018-2019. UNC-Chapel Hill had 16 student recipients for the year. Universities ranked ahead of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill include Brown, Princeton and Harvard.
Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 360,000 participants, chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. Over 1,900 U.S. students, artists and young professionals are offered Fulbright Program grants to study, teach English and conduct research annually. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program operates in over 140 countries throughout the world and is funded through an annual appropriation made by the United States Congress to the Department of State.
The Fulbright competition is administered at UNC-Chapel Hill through Iyman Gaspard, program manager for the Center of Global Initiatives and Fulbright Program adviser for the university. Between 1973 and 2015, more than 250 students from Carolina received Fulbright Student Awards grants to research, study and teach abroad.
