The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing formally expanded its global reach on Nov. 8 when Interim Dean Donna Havens signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with St. Luke’s International University in Tokyo, Japan.

The MOU marks the first formal step to further a collaborative relationship with the prestigious Japanese university begun by Professor SeonAe Yeo, who has been offering her expertise in their efforts to launch that country’s first Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

The two institutions seek to establish a UNC—St. Luke’s international visiting professorship, which will allow UNC faculty to spend four to six weeks each summer in Tokyo to teach, collaborate on research activities and mentor the next generation of global nurses. With the support of UNCSON’s Office of Practice and Global Initiatives and the Office of Graduate Practice Programs, Dr. Yeo has led the effort to initiate the visiting professorship, which should be finalized in spring 2017.
