Exchange and Sponsored Programs (ESP) connect UNC-Chapel Hill and international students, faculty and professionals — bringing the world to Carolina, and Carolina to the world.
UNC Global Affairs organizes short-term, customized academic and professional exchange programs for groups of international visitors to engage with UNC faculty, students and staff. Programs are externally funded by the U.S. Department of State, partner governments, foundations, or other sponsors.

UNC Global Affairs’ Exchange and Sponsored Programs expose international visitors to the deep expertise of Carolina faculty across disciplines and extend the university’s global reach and reputation.
UNC Global Affairs:
- Seeks external funding through grants or sponsorship to support program costs.
- Coordinates with academic departments and faculty to develop program content.
- Support department or faculty-led initiatives for short-term exchange programs.
- Identifies international institutions to partner with UNC on short-term academic and cultural exchange programs.
- Responds to requests from international partners to organize short-term programs with UNC.
