How will you spend your summer vacation? Karlye Dilts-Stedman, a graduate student in the economics department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will be spending part of hers with the Nobel Laureates in economics.
She has been selected to participate in the 6th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences to be held August 22-26, 2017 in Lindau, Germany. Only 400 young economists worldwide were chosen from among all those nominated.
Once every three years, Nobel Laureates convene at Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: undergraduates, doctoral students and post-doc researchers from all over the world. The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings foster the exchange among scientists of different generations, cultures and disciplines. According to the Program Committee, “the scientific program of each Lindau Meeting is based on the principle of dialogue. The different sessions — lectures, discussions, master classes and panel discussions — are designed to activate the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience between and among Nobel Laureates and young scientists.”
Dilts-Stedman is a student in the area of open-economy macroeconomics and international finance. She has completed her course work in this area and is currently working on her doctoral thesis examining spillovers from unconventional monetary policy in advanced economies to emerging foreign markets. Last summer, she was chosen as a research intern in the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund and assessed the external competitiveness of Argentina.
