The Center for Global Initiatives (CGI), Institute for the Study of the Americas (ISA) and Department of Romance Studies join Brandy Arellano and Ayashe Ramey to bring support to Puerto Rico during Spring Break, with a group of students from the Center for Global Initiatives. They are collecting new and lightly used children’s clothing for every age and any size.

Every year, the center holds a trip to Puerto Rico for students with financial need who have had limited travel experience (more info on the CGI website). This year, the trip was set to take place in December but was postponed due to hurricanes Maria and Irma.

Arellano and the students are flying Southwest Airlines, which allows two checked bags of luggage of 50 pounds each. This presents the opportunity for each traveler to take up to 100 pounds of supplies for Puerto Rico. The center is in contact with a few organizations on the ground, among them La Corporacion Piñones se Integra (COPI), who have expressed a need for children’s clothes of any size and food.

All donations will be gratefully accepted Feb. 12-16 at the following locations:

Department of Romance Studies, Dey Hall, Room 212

CGI and ISA, FedEx Global Education Center, Suite 3000

For more information, contact Brandy Arellano and Ayashe Ramey, (336) 455-3853.
