The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ties for 33rd in the world and is 23rd in the United States among global universities, according to the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy on August 15, 2019. UNC ties at 33rd with the University of Manchester. The university also ranks 8th among U.S. public universities.
