Bringing Peace and Healing to His Country
September 26, 2022Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center Fellow Dr. Mexan Mapouka is fulfilling his calling to heal others by bringing what he’s learned back to his hometown in the Central African Republic. Dr. Mexan Mapouka once worked to heal others as a young doctor in a war zone. Now, he’s pursuing a master’s in public health at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health as a fellow at the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center to learn how to combine his medical knowledge with conflict resolution. OVPGA Announces COIL Faculty Fellows
September 15, 2022The Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs (OVPGA) has appointed four faculty members to serve as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) faculty fellows for the 2022-23 academic year. COIL is a flexible pedagogical approach that involves shared virtual learning between students in a course at UNC-Chapel Hill and peer students at a global partner university. OVPGA offers support for Carolina faculty to incorporate COIL into new and existing UNC-Chapel Hill courses through its Curriculum Development Awards for COIL. September 1, 2022The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill continues to hold its position as 29th in the world and 20th in the United States among global universities, according to the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. The University also held onto its ranking of 7th amongst public U.S. universities. Carolina has made steady forward progress in the ARWU ranking over the past few years ranking 33rd in 2019, 30th in 2020 and 29th in 2021. UNC-Chapel Hill Area Studies Centers Awarded $12 Million in Federal Education Grants
August 16, 2022The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill area studies centers will receive approximately $12 million in competitive federal Title VI funding over the next four years to support language and area studies coursework, global programming and events, and outreach and opportunities for educators across the southeastern U.S. UNC-Chapel Hill is home to six Title VI-funded area studies centers, five of which are designated National Resource Centers for language and area studies. After Virtual Collaboration, Tar Heels Travel to Budapest to Present Alongside International Peers
June 20, 2022This Spring Carolina students participated in a new hybrid course model as part of BUSI 201, “Business in Europe,” in which they engaged first virtually and then in person, traveling to Hungary to co-present projects with students from Corvinus University in Budapest. BUSI 201 is a COIL Plus course, a hybrid iteration of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). Now she and fellow graduate students are leaving their mark on campus by creating a publication that celebrates that same diverse mindset.
